UPDATE: So the new site is up and running. I am still adding content to the site and will be making minor changes. But it’s ready!
So today I realized I have been having some major website issues, tomorrow I am going to reconfigure my website, with a new theme. Sorry that all the images that were in my portfolio are now lost, but I will be sure to put up a new gallery tomorrow.
So as it stands now, my 2005 Subaru Legacy Outback XT is at Mastria Subaru. I have contacted Subaru of North America and filed a claim, to have them cover the repair cost, due to the fact that this has been an ongoing problem with this model Subaru turbo, along with many other turbos made by Subaru. Apparently there is a nozzle which allows oil into the turbo, Subaru decided to put a screen here, which over normal use, and normal oil changes, still clogs and starves the turbo of oil. Which leads too oil starvation, and turbo failure.
I have kept all records of maintenance to my vehicle and take care of my cars. For a vehicle with less then 85K on it, my guess is the turbo should not be failing so often as I have seen on the web. Including my vehicle.
The good news is Premier Subaru in Brandford, CT are idiots. The recommended a tear down of my engine, along with labor, parts, and the new turbo, a bill in the $5000+ was too be expected with them doing the work. Knowing that I didn’t have much of a choice as I was in the middle of CT. Hundreds of miles from my home. But I decided to tow the vehicle away not liking the deal, nor the way I was treated being lied to by salesmen. But when I have the car delivered to Mastria Subaru, the great people over in the service dept. Go through my vehicle and come up with a $1700 bill for a new turbo, and an engine flush, with oil change.
By now I am already into a rental car for around $600, a tow for around $400, $110 for Premier Subaru to look at my car. Oh and a lost vacation.
If the price was that to begin with at Premier, I probably would have invested the money at the time knowing it would be an day or 2 to fix.
So now I wait for Subaru, will they cover the cost of the repair completely? They should, considering I have already lost $$ and time.
UPDATE: Ok so its been awhile since I talked about this, so I am gonna tell you how I stand.
The car is repaired, the total cost was just over $1700, plus the fees for towing, rental car and other expenses I am invested around $3000.00. You would think I don’t like Subaru anymore, but this is not the case, I love my car, as for the reasons why Subaru, decided not to cover the damages the turbo did, I am unsure, and have contacted my lawyer, and will be following up soon.
Oh and to Premier Subaru in Brandford, CT….Not only did you lie to my face, try and overcharge me for repairs because you knew you had me by the balls….you then STOLE my engine cover and rear rubber weather mats? really? You will also be hearing from my lawyer.

So as it stands now my car is going to be at mastria subaru in the morning, where the fine people over there are going to get the wheels spinning on my repair…gonna need a new turbo and most likely a new engine, due too the fact that the turbo failed which broke apart sending pieces inside the engine, which was found in the oil.
I have done as much research as I could as I am currently on the road, but this turbo failure does tend to be a problem with my car, and Subaru has slightly noticed by repairing these on an individual basis. Rest assured I will not have to pay for anything more then the lawyer fee if it comes too it…
We shall see this week….
On a better note I did get to visit assateague island and photograph some horses, just a teaser pic as I could not upload a true photo….
Also saw some great sites will post lists of pics when I return…

So day 1…started off bad..check engine…ran some errands and stopped by autozone…ran a code check came up with some different possibilities…went back to car…won’t start…dead battery, and really dead. $95 later new battery…leave but hear engine noise sounds like it is coming from my turbo…I bring it to my mechanic who listens but says it should be fine. Just get an oil change and head to Florida. Ok sounds great, I go across the street to change my oil, and while that is taking place I look under the cat and see that a heat shield is broken making the rattle noise I wad hearing….so the guy set screws it in…and off we go to Florida…
But it doesn’t end there I continue hearing the noise, but trusting the original mechanic, and seeing the broken shield, I continue on thinking I am over thinking the problem…until exit 58 in ct…boom loss of power, I exit and have no turbo power at all, car moves but no acceleration. Luckily I am near a Subaru dealership where the car sits now…me waiting to hear the damage…
I rented a Kia sportage, not a bad ride. Though I miss my suby!
Keep you posted as to how much it costs, and how long…and whether this vaca is over!
Stay Hungry!
Corey
Update:
So it’s not looking good for my suby, the turbo let go, which basically got metal in the engine so cost is well upwards of 4k…umm this is not looking good!
So in two days I will be starting my trip to florida. The plan is to visit some historic locations throughout the eastern seaboard of the US.
Thursday, I will be heading to Upstate NJ to visit with my niece, oh and my brother and sister in law also will be there. On the way I plan on checking out some harbor seals that have been spotted in RI. Hopefully I can get some good shots. I am also planning on stoping in NYC for a few hours, and I am sure I can find things to photograph there.
Friday, I plan on leaving NJ and heading to Virginia, and Maryland….maybe some feral horses? or some battlefields, or just some scenery.
I plan on blogging throughout the trip, regardless of who is reading.
Stay Hungry,
Corey
I have a new website! So I have been sick the past few days so I went ahead and got this bad boy up and running.
I am still figuring out wordpress to its fullest extent, so I am sure I will be able to incorporate Twitter and other things in the future.
Stay Hungry.
