PDTV

A fully automated 24/7 livestream network of public-domain films and TV, programmed by weekly themes.

PDTV pulls public-domain films and shows from the Internet Archive, cleans them up, and holds each one for a public-domain check before it can air. A scheduler builds each week's lineup around a theme and handles daylight saving time correctly. The playout engine streams around the clock, and if it crashes it picks up exactly where the schedule says it should be.

What's left: connecting it to YouTube, branding the channel, and the tooling for handling content claims.

Build log

  1. Ingest, scheduling and playout working

Built the first four milestones in a day: ingest, the public-domain review queue, the weekly scheduler with 124 tests, and the playout engine.
